Remote Communicating…”Can You Hear Me Now?”
By · CommentsDevelopment projects always seem to have more than one issue to solve, but focusing in on root problems can be extremely difficult. To compound matters, development projects are usually located in places where communication infrastructure simply does not exist. The likelihood of a cell phone tower being built in a wilderness area near your project could be as remote as your location.
However, there are companies that specialize in communication in the remotest of places. Development Seed http://developmentseed.org/ is one such company. They thrive on delivering communications platforms to remote locations, and provide technical expertise to go along with it. Development Seed provides multi-lingual communications platforms to integrate in with your internet presence. Imagine being able to file a report from the field, post it online, and having translation capabilities so your development partners understand the work that you are doing.
“We focus our work in a few key sectors so we can get the details right. Our core competencies are centered around large data projects and communications software for geographically disperse teams. These projects require rich visualizations available in any language, accessible via any device, and scalable for global use. Niching in these sectors has allowed us to attract a team of experts with unique skill sets who focus full time on solving these problems.”
Wordpress…a Work of Art
By · CommentsLearning Wordpress is a challenge, no doubt. There are some really great qualities about Wordpress, such as the ease of use when it is time to publish a new post. However, other qualities, such as changing around the theme layout manually (by entering code) is a bit more difficult. I’ll get the job done, no doubt, but with no small effort. I feel that I need to have a really great layout in order for all my pages and posts to make sense. Keep on the lookout for more changes.

Wordpress…new to me
By · CommentsI’m catching up with Web 2.0. That’s right, it left me in the dust before I even knew it existed. I do have a facebook account. I log on, catch a few glimpses of someone else’s day, make a couple of posts, then log off. However, I didn’t realize that facebook is just one aspect of Web 2.0. Inez Mergel, a visiting instructor to my Leadership Management class talked about Web 2.0 and Wordpress last week. That was during the time that I knew that I wanted to make a website, but I was plenty disgusted with trying to learn all the new CSS “stuff” on Dreamweaver. I had just made a decision to drop Dreamweaver and look for something else. A few days later, I had a new website! Thanks Wordpress!
I think a website is a bit like having a child…they start so young until they finally grow up. Some people wait until the “big day” to unveil their site. However, I decided to go ahead and throw my site out onto the web and let people watch it grow from day one. I’m sure there will be some missteps along the way, but maybe you’ll get to see it grow. After all, this is my first experience with Wordpress.
I’m catching up. Keep checking up on aidMISSIONS for more….
